Graveside services for Mr. Joe Brende, 78, of Cookeville,
Tennessee, will be held at 10 A.M. on Friday, July 14, at the
Mansell Cemetery in the Freewill community of Jackson County.
The family will receive friends Thursday from 5 P.M. – 9 P.
M., and on Friday from 9 A.M. – 9:30 A.M. at Upper
Cumberland Funeral Home.
Mr. Brende passed away on Monday, July 10, 2006, at the
Cookeville Regional Medical Center in Cookeville, Tennessee.
He was born December 29, 1927, in Dell Rapids, Minnehaha
Co., South Dakota to the late Torsten Brende and Louise
Wold Brende. Mr. Brende was a cabinet maker and was
confirmed in the Lutheran faith.
He was the founder of the Dakota Cowboys Band. Mr. Brende
helped to get the Bell Witch Opry started, and was a member of
the Bell Witch Opry Band for many years, playing the
accordion. As much as he loved music, his love for family and
friends who enjoyed his music was greater.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by 1
Sister: Marilyn JoAnn Brende.
Survivors include 3 Sons: Mike (Tonni) Brende of
Independence, MO; Doug (Kandy) Brende of Sioux Falls, SD;
and Steve Brende of Sioux Falls, SD; A very special loved
one: Judy Anderson of Cookeville, TN; 1 Brother: Orlene
(Barbara) Brende of Sioux Falls, SD; 1 Sister: Lillian Wilson of
Dell Rapids, SD; 13 Grandchildren and 7 Great-
Grandchildren also survive.
Bro. Jimmy Anderson will officiate at the services.
